We just got back from Shotshow in Las Vegas this week where the firearms industry gathered for conferences between manufacturing and distributors. The main talking points from all the ammo manufacturers we met with was copper prices, tariffs and copper tariffs, along with the immediate need to raise prices. We expect to see most major manufacturers do across the board price increases in the range of 7% to 10%. On 9mm Luger FMJ range ammo, which is a huge portion of what is selling these days, we expect to see $15-ish per 1000 increase right away. We also heard from a number of sources that stockpiled copper raw materials like brass cups used to make shell cases and copper strip used to make bullet jackets that were imported before the 50% tariff are running out, and the price of copper for new raw materials is causing unavoidable hard price increases that must be passed on, reductions in production, and layoffs in the industry, as manufacturing seeks to cut costs, reduce supply and restore profitability. We have also seen a sharp increase in consumer demand for ammo this month, with daily sales volume 25% to 50% over typical recent averages. While some of this should be expected, as the busy season for selling ammo is generally November to April with a peak in March as income tax refunds get spent, we feel that the elevated demand signals a widespread urge by the consumer to stock up on ammo. In my opinion, it would be wise to stock up now if you need ammo while depressed market pricing lingers from 2025 and before 2026 price increases from the factories begin to force widespread increases in the retail market. For the most part we have been holding ammo prices at 2025 low-point prices, and while many factories have made 2026 increases, we have passed on very few of those due to our strategic inventory reserves. Those supplies will not last forever, and pricing is unlikely to get better than it is today, so consider fulfilling your needs sooner than later if you want to buy while prices are at the bottom.
